Wendy Tunison Designs has 3 new kits and a bundle available today! Whoot!
I don't know about you but I can never find a planner that fills my needs. I search high and low online and in stores but I can never find the perfect planner that works perfectly for me. About 4 years ago Wendy started making her own at home. She simply creates the pages and prints them out. In the past she's had them spiral bound with laminated covers, used a bind-it-all to bind it with chipboard covers and most recently (and happily) a small 3 ring binder that she can easily add to and take pages out of. She loves it! She's added a few page protectors to hold bills, receipts, letters from school and tax items. It's totally customizable and so completely useable! So she thought she'd offer you the same option. She created this planner with her Simplicity kit so that it was easily versatile enough to add more ellies if you like for a splash of color yet easy on the printer ink!

This is a set of 5.5x8.5" customizable sheets. She's added all of the ellies and spaces for you. All you need to do is customize it for your own needs. If you look below you'll see a few ways she thought of to make this perfect for capturing a year of your life. A few of the ideas are things she'll keep on her computer and then have printed into a book at the end of the year. She thinks it will be a wonderful capture of her family and she can't wait to use this in 2012. She thinks it will be perfect for P365 too!

She has made each of the pages in left and right facing so that you can easily put them in any order you'd like as well.

Today I have another customer spotlight for you! Meet Meghan! This is her awesome layout:

Don't you just love it! I first notice the great technique of making the swirl both behind and above the photo. I also love the way she had the sparkles begind the title and the great placement of the journaling! It was an awesome page that I felt just stood out in my gallery! I always LOVE to see layouts you do with my stuff!

I got in touch with Meghan to get to know her better!

1. Tell us a little about yourself! My name is Meghan. I've been married to my husband Dan for almost 10 years (it will be 10 in June!), we have two wonderful girls Fiona who is 6 and Alexis who is 2. We live in a fabulous neighborhood in a not so fabulous house (our foundation cracked twice and we are currently enduring cement floors until we can finish putting in flooring.) But the upside is living near a lake and having a wonderful community. As evidenced in my Santa scrapbook page. It's so cool that he comes to our house!

2. How long you been digi-scrapping and what's your favorite technique? I've been doing digital scrapbooking for about a year. I always wanted to do paper scrapping but just couldn't afford it. Digital is so great! You can do anything with it. Lately I've been into having swirls overlap the photos they are under, I feel like that makes the pages really resemble paper scrapped pages where it is easier to layer elements over and under your photos at the same time. I also like adding laces or little elements peeking out from underneath stacked papers.

3. If you could have any kit made, what would it be? Gosh, I don't know! I love working with so many different kinds of kits. Maybe a nice horse back riding (English style) kit. I've been wanting to go back and scrap some pages of myself and my husband as children (our girls have been over scrapped lately-especially this month with all the fun Christmas activities). I used to be a serious rider and I have tons of pictures of me on horses

4. When you're not digi-scrapping, what other hobbies do you pursue? As far as other hobbies go, you name it I've probably tried it. From knitting and crochet to woodworking, soldering metal jewelry boxes, sewing, genealogy, jewelry making, quilting, wool felting, working with regular felt, writing and photographing books for my girls, playing piano, drums, and guitar, etc. I'm currently saving to take a glass blowing class. I've been dreaming of trying that for years!

5. Okay, tell us something many people might not know about you! Hmmm, well I'm so talkative that most people know more about me than they probably want to! I guess I'd say that I love my job so much, I'm a part-time children's librarian. It's always fun going to work, my co-workers are fantastic, the kids are adorable and fun, and the best part is that I can combine all my interests at my job in the programs I plan and by making pretty decorations for reading programs, and felt-board pieces for story time. Everyone at work has heard so much about digital scrapbooking that we are going to start offering classes for adults at the library about it. Being a librarian is the perfect job for me. I'm really happy.

And I started on this before the 1st and it just took me some time! I tried to stay a few days ahead of us until I could get it completely finished! But I did an activity Advent calendar and this kit was perfect for it! I had lots of fun making each envelope different and special. I used some ribbon and rub-ons I had in my paper scrapbooking stash. I haven't made too many hybrids before but I thought this one turned out well! I just used regular printer paper since I had to fold and glue the envelopes but then cardstock for the tags inside so the ribbon wouldn't rip them of course. I made the template for the envelope myself and then used a tag template by Delicious Scraps.

Repurposing kits- house freebie!

Hey Scrappers!

I bought my first home this year! Yeah! It was so hard looking through so many listings but when we walked through this house, we knew it was the one!

So, I, of course, wanted to scrap a layout about my new home but didn't feel like I had any that would work well. I thought of love and family and then I remembered my Bond of Love kit I released last month. I thought that the people and all the hearts would work great for it, but I really wanted a little house element. So, I made one!

Used a template by Queen Wild Scraps from her Peek-a-Boo Set.

There are lots of easy ways to re-purpose a kit into the one you need! First, re-color elements as needed, think outside the box or maybe find some clip art online that you can just clip one of the papers to! Some clip art do not come as pngs, so you need to use your select tool to select the black area, cut and paste it and then clip your paper to the image.

Here's a layout Lahni did for me earlier this year. My kit was For Better or Worse and it was a wedding kit but she made a gorgeous layout of her little girl:

Stephanie scrapped with my super-hero mini, Up, Up and Away to add some attitude to these super cute pictures of her son on the playground:

Lauren scrapped this page about root beer from my kit Rustic Autumn. You wouldn't think it came from a fall kit by looking at it! But the colors of some of the elements match the brownish color of root beer so Lauren used only those elements to make this page! If you find a kit that you love the colors, but don't feel like the theme matches what you want, you can still use the basics to make a great page!

So I got with her to talk about what makes her tick:

Q: Tell us a little about yourself. When did you start digi-scrapping?
Hi, my name is LilyAnn. I’ve been married almost 13 years to my husband, Jeff. We met when I joined a bowling league that he was in and we’ve been together ever since. We have two kids. Molly is 10 and Philip is 6.
I started digi-scrapping about 5 years ago shortly after my son was born. He was a climber and would get into all my stuff. I’ve been scrapping for just over 10 years.

Q: What is your favorite go-to technique or kit item?
My favorite go-to item is small patterned papers that have most of the kit colors in them. Sometimes there is that one item in a kit that I must put on my page for whatever reason and if the papers I choose didn’t have that color in it, it doesn’t look right. Using that one patterned paper brings the whole page together even if I use a small strip of it!

Q: If you could have any kit designed what would it be?
That’s an easy one! I want to make one scrapbook of my wedding (not like the random pages I usually do). The kit should have my wedding color; mauve and the blues of the dresses of the mothers and my sister. Wedding kits designed with specific colors are hard to find.

Q: Tell us some fun little-known fact about you!
My whole family loves anything Disney. We bought time-share in Disney on our honeymoon. We go back “home” about every other year. This year we went on our first Disney Cruise, The Dream!

New Release from Wendy Tunison- Simplicity

Wendy Tunison kind of had this fun idea that she wanted to create a black and white kit with 1 pop of color. But then she had issues. Serious issues! LOL! She couldn't decide which color she wanted to pop with it. So she started with one and then she decided that maybe she wanted two. Then the kit was HUGE! So she decided to stick with her original idea of a black & white kit. And she decided to make some add ons in different colors to go with it! This week she only made two colors to go with it but she has big plans to make more colorful add ons in the future so that you'll have some serious variety to play with! Are you ready to see it? It's huge! There are 108 ellies (no repeats and no recolors as always!) and 15 papers in this kit! It's awesome!

She also made a set of tags to go with it so that you could use them to create titles, dates and everything in between! Thanks to Kandi (on our CT), you get 31 numbers too so that you can use it for P365 or P52! Whoot!

****Disclaimer****

I am NO Photo expert! Which is why I find myself needing to correct or "adjust" my photos in Photoshop before scrapping with them. Truly, you can have an excellent, super cute layout but if your photos are dull, have shadows, or are just not pow! it really detracts from your layout. I just want to share some settings I have recently found and work great for me! You might be a pro and use others but these work for me and it's sooooo easy!

First, here is my photo in question:

It just doesn't show the vibrancy and beauty of her skin, her hair, it's just dull! In the past I have used saturation, but here, when I tried, it made her skin look too pink. It's more of a yellowish tint-honey, maybe.

So, I started by increasing the exposure. It was mid-day for crying out loud! and my old point-and-shoot makes it look so cloudy and gloomy! Here is where you can find the exposure setting:

For the settings, just use your judgement. My photo is dark so I slid the settings to the right a bit.

Next, I went to Photo Filters.

These are so fun! I know you can tint your photo with the Black/White tool, but under Photo Filters, there are a ton more pre-sets that are great for photos. For this photo, I chose deep yellow:

In the past, I have also used the warming filter- that was fun for when I wanted some fall photos to feel a little more reddish. With winter coming on, the cooling filters would look really nice on some photos!

And that's it! Below you can see my before and after:

New Releases from Dream Big Designs and Scrappy Cocoa

I have two new releases to show you today:

First, it's more like a re-release, Dream Big Designs has released her Christmas kit, Holy Night. This kit is so elegant and gorgeous! She has nativity scenes and beautiful gold embellishments. It's a whole collection. Bundle up with the kit, word art, graffiti and embossed papers.

I made two things with this kit (there will definitely be more!!!) I made a nativity scene and printed out the background and all the characters. I'm going to use it to tell the story of Christ's birth. We'll read a few scriptures and then add a piece to the scene. Here's the digi-version:

And here's my printed out version. I'm going to laminate it. I think my daughter will love this!

And then I made a layout from Scrappy Cocoa's Templation:Spotlight Template set.

I also used a word art from my recent A Christmas to Remember- the Word Art.

A Christmas to Remember- New Collection and a Freebie!!!

I saw this super cute layout she made in my gallery over at STS and so I just had to grab her and ask some questions. First let's look at the layout in question:

Don't you love her color extraction! And love that mischievous little smile! She called it "Cute but Dangerous". Fitting huh?

She used Outta Control to make this awesome layout.

Tracy was kind enough to answer my questions!

1. How long have you been digi-scrapping?

Tracy: I've dabbled in digi-scrapping for a little over 2 years, but seriously for only about a year. I mostly scrap my 2 boys and 6 (soon to be 7) grand-kids, but we've lived in some places with some amazing scenery so I occasionally scrap landscapes as well.

2. What do you do when you are not scrapbooking?

Tracy: When I'm not scrapbooking, I'm playing maid, cook and cab driver to my kids. haha Seriously though...I love to read, watch sports and I spend way too much time on Facebook!

3.If you could have any kind of kit created, what would it be?

Tracy: Any kind of kit huh? Wow, the designers do such a great job covering so many different subjects. The funny thing is, I thought of something just the other day where I said to myself "I don't remember seeing a kit for this before". But of course I can't for the life of me remember what it was now. I guess a family-type kit with blues/greens/browns/grays for the guys and pinks/purples/creams for the girls...muted, earthy tones. I'm totally kicking myself for not remembering my thought from the other day...*sigh*

4. What's an interesting fact about yourself few know?

Tracy: I find it really difficult sometimes to believe I'm an adult. I look at myself in the mirror and think "you're not mature enough to have kids, grand-kids, own a house or make important decisions". LOL
